Liturgical Ministries

The following provides brief descriptions of various ministries that are related to our various liturgies.  If you are not currently serving in a ministry, or if you wish to volunteer for an additional ministry, please consider volunteering in one of the following capacities.

Weekend Mass Lectors

Lectors are men and women whose ministry is to proclaim the Word of God.  Lectors should have a strong, clear speaking voice and be willing to thoughtfully and prayerfully prepare the Mass readings.  Other duties include making brief announcements before and during Mass, and leading the assembly in the prayers of the faithful.  Any parishioner, high school age or older, is invited to volunteer for this ministry.  A lector is traditionally scheduled to read once or twice a month at the weekend Mass that he or she customarily attends.

Ministers of Holy Communion

Ministers of Holy Communion are men and women whose ministry is to bring the Body and Blood of Christ to the members of the Church.  Most often this is done at Mass, but at times it is necessary to bring communion to those confined to their homes.  A minister of communion is traditionally scheduled once or twice a month and if it is preferred, one may request that his or her service be reserved to the parish church – and at a particular Mass if possible.  Any parishioner who has been confirmed is invited to volunteer for this ministry.  Instruction and installation in to this ministry will be provided.

Greeters

Greeters are men and women who greet parishioners, invite people to pass the collection basket, and present the collection to the priest at the offertory.  Greeters are also asked to orchestrate the presentation of the gifts of bread and wine to the priest at the offertory.  This is traditionally offered by members of the family who have requested the Mass for a loved one.

Altar Servers

Young men and women in the 4th grade and above are invited to serve at Mass as altar servers.  Servers carry the cross, hold the book for the priest, assist the priest when he receives the gifts from the people, present the bread, wine, and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts, wash the hands of the priest and is attentive to any other needs at Mass.  Training will be provided.

Choir

New voices are always welcome to join our choir.  Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm.

Bereavement Ministers

This ministry assists families who have lost a loved one in the preparation of the funeral liturgy and with the hospitality offered to friends and family at the Parish Center following the prayers at the cemetery.
