There Is No Vacation From God

Now that the summer vacation period is upon us there is a real temptation to relax and take time off from our usual responsibilities and job obligations.  This change of pace is refreshing and rejuvenating to all of us. 

What we must remember, however, is that there is no vacation from God.  All that we have and all that we are, are from God.  The very first gifts of sight, hearing, speech, family, country, and life itself are from Him.  Proof of the sincerity and depth of our love and faith really show forth when it means an extra effort or sacrifice on our part. 

Don't ever fail to find those few moments out of your entire week to be away from everyone and everything and spend it just with the Lord, to be nourished by His word and the Body and Blood of His Son.

Don't ever take a journey without the Lord accompanying you.  There can be no vacation from God!

A Travelers Prayer

STOP before you leave the driveway en route from summer vacation and ask the Lord God to bless your travels: 

"Heavenly Father, whose glory fills the entire creation and whose presence we find wherever we go, preserve those who travel and in particular, those about the begin this journey.  Surround them with your loving care, protect them from every danger and bring them back in safety to their journey's end.  We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen."
